The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) is currently recruiting a (1) Policy Officer Quality Assurance and (2) an Education Specialist. We are looking for two enthusiastic colleagues with a passion for educational quality, who are creative problem solvers and have a collegial attitude, to join our team at the Educational Development and Policy cluster. Job description
The Policy Officer Quality Assurance and the Education Specialist are part of our Educational Development and Policy cluster. This cluster stands for theory-based and data-driven support to all FASoS (educational) Staff. In particular the Faculty Board, Programme Directors, and Educational Programme Committees. Our aim is to optimize education at FASoS by collaborating with the relevant stakeholders.
You support and advise the Faculty Board, Educational Bodies, Programme Directors and (teaching) Staff on a broad range of educational matters. Topics include curriculum design and assessment, quality assurance and accreditation, educational policy and governance, teacher professionalisation, and study success. The two positions are linked to each other in certain content-related areas but ask for specific expertise in the field of quality assurance and educational science.

You work together with support and academic (teaching) staff to achieve high level education at FASoS. This includes a broad range of tasks, such as identifying areas for improvement concerning the quality assurance process, as with the development of courses, and contribute teaching professionalisation with the focus on developing training based on faculty needs. You translate educational developments into contextualized policy for FASoS. You guard governance procedures for policy making and support the implementation from the very start. You signal the needs of the organisation and explain developments to stakeholders. You work together with teaching as well as support staff from within and outside the FASoS. As a team member you participate regularly in (inter)faculty meetings and projects.

Job requirements
For both vacancies, we look for a “pragmatic idealist” who likes to collaborate with scientific staff/content experts on developing and improving education and processes surrounding education. You are sensitive to stakeholder interests and you can think out of the box when it comes to solving problems.

We are looking for two independent, proactive, team players who jointly cover the requirements listed below:
  • are knowledgeable about policy making, educational processes and governance at a university;
  • have strong analytical skills;
  • are able to substantiate an argument, motivate and convince;
  • experience in coordinating projects is an advantage
  • have an academic degree that matches the job description;
  • have strong communication skills;
  • you are fluent in English and Dutch (level C1).

Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) has about 250 staff members, and about 1,600 students. More than 76% of the students are non-Dutch (64 different nationalities). All programmes are offered in English and some are also offered in Dutch. FASoS offers three 3-year bachelor’s programmes: Arts and Culture, European Studies and Digital Society. It also offers eight different 1-year master’s programmes and two 2-year research master’s programmes. Research is organised around four programmes: Politics and Culture in Europe; Science, Technology and Society Studies; Arts, Media and Culture; and Globalisation, Transnationalism and Development. The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is housed in the historic city centre of Maastricht.

We offer two 1.0 fte appointments that combined fulfil the functions of (1) Policy Officer Quality Assurance and (2) an Education Specialist, for two years. In case of good performance and equal prospects for the faculty, extension of the employment on a permanent basis is a possibility. Remuneration will be according to standard salary levels, depending on education and relevant work experience, in principle in salary scale 10 (between € 2.709 and € 4.274,- gross per month, based on a fulltime appointment) according to the collective labour agreement (CAO) of Dutch Universities, including 8% holiday pay and an 8,3% end of year payment. A preliminary scale might apply in case the suitable candidate has yet to develop certain professional skills.

Starting date: 1 November 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter
